#iamimaji: Behind The Scene with Lala Jasin

From romance, strange worlds, to talking pets. The concept of what’s real and not becomes so fluid, it’s easily mended by whoever creative minds work behind the scene. Film has become a new way for people to escape reality and travel to different worlds. For Lala Jasin film is like a window to life and we couldn’t agree more.

Lala Jasin works as a producer at Titik Sembilan Production House. As the producer, Lala works closely with directors to translate ideas into action. She facilitates and supervises the entire production process, from scouting, scheduling, production staff, to the managerial aspects. Outside of producing, Lala loves to direct as well.

Since a child, Lala always knew that she’d pursue art. In finding her passion, she tries various things such as dancing, playing the piano, drawing, etc. Influenced by her father who’s a photographer, Lala sets her eye on Film Production. “Film is like a window to life”, says Lala. For example, when you watch K-dramas, you get to learn more about Korean culture. Film allows you to travel through worlds with endless possibilities. In filming production, she gets to learn a lot about people and culture. That’s what motivates her to do her work until now.

For Lala, one of the hardest parts of being a producer is the people management. As she works in a fast-paced industry, she meets a lot of people in a short period of time. Although tiring, when met with good companies, working can be fun. At work, she sees problems like a puzzle. If there’s a missing piece that needs to be solved, she’ll approach it carefully. “It’s more on how you talk, how you say it, and what’s the problem solving. There’s a way out for everything”, says Lala. Trust is important during the creative process. When there’s trust, idea can flows naturally and even when the output is not as expected, something better comes up.

What valuable lessons have you learned from the challenges you’ve faced in your creative pursuit?

LALA JASIN: “Become someone who continues to learn. When people feel they have a lot of experience or know best, they become ignorant and don't want to learn anymore. You have to be willing to learn, even to younger people. Don't think that you’re the best.”

Working with “RAGAM” People

They say it takes a village to raise a child. The same goes for film production. Behind the scenes, it takes a village of people to get the job done. When asked what keyword encapsulates and sets Titik Sembilan different from the others, Lala simply said “Beragam”. In Titik Sembilan, Lala works with many people with “RAGAM” characters and backgrounds. In tackling such a diverse working dynamic, it is important to accept and embrace the differences. As the world progresses, it allows more inclusivity towards females in the film industry. With more females in the industry, it creates a more collaborative space. The diversity behind the scene allows them to create more diverse work.

When she’s not working behind the scenes, she would spend her time off-set doing theater. She’s a part of “Teater Pandora”, a community that shares passion in acting. She’s sometimes involved in their production and ends up taking her hobby to her work place. She also likes to study human design to understand people and help her adapt to diverse working environments. While it seems that what she does in her free time impacts her work life, another side of Lala also enjoys doing yoga or running. She loves going to music festivals, going to parks, and spending time with her close friends.

Last but not least, we asked Lala her top 3 most memorable movies and we recommend you to take notes! Here are Lala’s top 3 movies:
