Wellness is an act of practicing healthy habits, caring for mind, body, and spirit to be in harmony. Humans often pay more attention to their physical health and overlook the need to care for their spirit and mind. By nurturing each aspect of our being, we can achieve a state of tranquility that encourages joy and connection to ourselves and the world around us. In today’s fast-paced and stress-laden world, the importance of wellness has never been this much needed.
Talenna and Talula are the inspiring pair of sisters behind Sulla Home and Sulla Wellness Club, selling wellness products and creating safe a place to nurture well-being together through wellness classes. Their journey in wellness starts close to their heart, influenced by their mom who has been doing yoga since 2015. Since then, yoga and wellness has been engraved in Talenna and Talula’s daily lives.
“Soulful” and “Organic” are the two distinctive keywords they share that encapsulates their brand. “Soulful”, Talennna explains, means in everything that they do, they do it from the heart. Before the trend, they started their yoga and wellness journey 7 years ago and continued their journey with the same intention and heart as they did back then. In everything that they do, they make sure to create something that they truly embody as a value. She tries to embody the value when she teaches, in her partnership with her sister, and in the people that she works with. “As we run the business it becomes even more purpose driven, not just profit driven,” says Talenna. In-line with their values, “Organic” as what Talula described, is how they create their products. “We try to be very raw and truthful,” says Talula. They try to see what the people or they personally need when creating the right product. For example, their viral “Yoga Rack” came from their own struggle to keep their yoga equipment organized at home. They are hoping to continue in the future to organically make what they feel the community needs.
The brand always evolves according to how Talenna and Talula evolve as a person. It is mainly the reason why the brand has been going for 7 years. Started from their home and living brand “Sulla Home” and “Sulla Loft” as their first offline store, the brand then dived to wellness as Sulla Wellness Club. Talenna took a Yoga Teacher Training for her own development but then turned into a business idea for their brand. Now, Talenna teaches at her own wellness club. The same goes for Talula, as her love for yoga and wellness grows and becomes a passion for her. They express how their lives and the things they do for a living are aligned and intertwined. Nevertheless, they share their need of having to constantly innovate to push the brand moving forward. With the presence of competition and how saturated the market is right now, they always try to push themselves and stay true to Sulla Wellness Club’s value.
What motivates you every day?
Talenna: “As the brand grew bigger, me and Lula realized how fun it is to do work that aligns with our passion. Now we get to attend yoga classes for free as it’s covered as a business trip. We get many ideas each time we get back. When we create this kind of community, the perks are very specific, and a luxury and privilege for us. Because we work in wellness, we get to prioritize work life balance.”
Talula: “For me, there’s nothing specifically, because I feel like wellness is a part of me. It’s what I do for a living and it’s my daily ritual as well. It’s fun when we have the opportunity to share that wellness to other people.”
Creating a wellness club serves not only as a place for people to come and nurture their body and mind, but also as a window for Talenna and Talula to meet and work with people from various backgrounds and ages. Their Community varies from college students to mothers in their late 40s. Talenna explains that working with “RAGAM” individuals made her more aware of how she presents herself and connects with different kinds of people just by reading where their energy is coming from. “(When) Working with different kinds of individuals, we need to take the first step to get to know them and their qualities. Different kinds of people have their own strengths and weaknesses. It’s just the matter of how we want to channel that and how we can react and respond to that,” explains Talenna.
“What’s interesting, although these individuals are different, they all come together because they want to pursue wellness to some degree.” —Talenna
Outside of work and wellness, the sisters share to us their other passions and ways for them to express themselves. Talula explores her passion in sewing and interior design. She likes to design her own furniture at home, in fact, the interior of Sulla Home shop was designed by Talula. She also designs for their festival installations, using it as an opportunity for her to express her creative side at work as well. For Talennna, she admits there was a time when she felt burnt out from wellness, that was when she explored and found bouldering, climbing, and doing DJ. Eventually her hobbies ended up aligning with her work. DJing inspires her to explore the connection between how she can elevate a wellness experience through different kinds of music. It’s an unique experience, says Talenna, as sometimes people would come and say that they like their playlist and that it was fun.
Now the sisters are preparing for their second year running “Sundaze Fest”, a two-day wellness Festival from sun up to sun down. Although they will be busy, we can know for sure that everything they do comes from the heart. Talking with the sisters captures wellness not just a habit but also a state of mind that encompasses all things in life.
